Barnsley roofers DPR Roofing Ltd were called to inspect a property’s roof after the owner spotted some defective pointing and reported moisture entering the building through the ceilings.

After a comprehensive survey it was clear that the red-brick property needed a complete overhaul and some key maintenance works carrying out.

The inspection found the following issues:
• Missing or damaged roof tiles
• Heavy vegetation to some roof areas including chimney stack
• Loose and/or defective chimney stack flaunching
• Defective pointing to gable apex
• Damaged fascia
• Rotting timber window frame

With the extensive work required the homeowner saw it as a good time to have a new roof fitted to the worst affected section; the front elevation flat roof.

With the proposed works signed off the Barnsley roofers arrived at the property and began erecting a fixed scaffold to carry out the works which would require access to the entire roof as well as the front and rear of the property.

First the roofing team set about correcting the defective and damaged areas, starting with the removal and replacing of all damaged or missing roof tiles.

Once this was completed the roofers’ attention was moved to the chimney stack where they hacked back all loose and defective flaunching before re-flaunching the areas using a quality roofing grade mortar. They also removed and disposed of the growing vegetation to the area.

Next, they removed the damaged fascia board and replaced it with a new pre-treated fascia and painted it gloss black to match the existing boards.

The experienced roofers then set about cleaning back all of the defective paintwork on the timber window frame before applying a primer backing coat and then a white gloss finish using quality outdoor wood paint.

The biggest task would be fitting the new superior fibreglass roof. The roofers removed all the existing felt and timber decking boards in order to fit the new specialist tongued and grooved Sterling roof decking boards. Next they fitted the bespoke pre-made fibreglass trims to the roof perimeter and applied a new resin coat and fibreglass matting to all junctions. And to finish, the team applied a specially formulated coloured topcoat to the entire roof and trims to form a seamless watertight seal.

Finally they corrected all the defective pointing and removed all resultant rubble and waste to leave the property just how they found it – with the exception of a fully refurbished roof.
